Q: Why does my body crave sugar at the end of a meal?
A: Many people crave something sweet at the end of a meal. If your mother always served dessert at the end of a meal, the craving may be a physiological or emotional conditioned response from childhood. Research has found that food cravings can be influenced by hormonal and neurotransmitter changes in the brain. When you are stressed your body can release hormones that make you crave sugar, so chronic stress may be a factor as well.
