Change

Change
only comes
When you are ready

Change
Is like the transformation of each new season
A rebirth
If you let yourself believe

Change
Only comes
When you are ready
Sometimes it can be unexpected
And make you feel scared
But tell yourself
It is for the better

Allow yourself
To keep an open mind
And trust your heart
Life gives you only what
You can handle

Change
It can help make you stronger
Help you to let go
And move on

Change
Only comes
When you are ready

I am ready today.

About the Author

Christine McFarlane is a First Nations woman who lives in Toronto, Ontario Canada. She writes about issues that are not only close to her but to what others in recovery have experienced.

The Heart of the Matter

"If we open the gates of our heart—risking everything, loving bravely, forgiving extravagantly—we can transform our lives, walk into each day knowing we are already loved, already healed, already part of the breathtaking whole. We can feel the warmth of love's oil burning and cast its light from deep within. If we refused for a day to be numbed and defensive, to don our armor, to be silent and withholding, and we released what we could of our love for life, heaven itself would come pouring out with balm for our wounds and wine for our chalice.

When our hearts are closed, we feel lonely and alone, weak and in danger, fearful and faithless. We wait for love to find us. We wait for God to help us. We wait for life to knock on our door with the world in its hands, when all the while it's in our hearts and in the hearts of everyone we see."
